Clear Introduction to Your Medicare Choices
Understanding what each part of Medicare does is a good first step.
Start With the Basics
Medicare has several parts. Understanding what each part does is a good first step.
Medicare Parts
Part A — Hospital Insurance
Helps cover inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and some home health care.
Part B — Medical Insurance
Helps cover services from doctors and other healthcare providers, outpatient care, durable medical equipment, and many preventive services.
Part D — Prescription Drug Coverage
Helps cover prescription drug costs. Drug coverage can be purchased through a stand-alone Medicare drug plan with Original Medicare or may be included in many Medicare Advantage plans.
Your Medicare Coverage Options
Medicare Supplement (Medigap)
Private supplemental insurance is designed to help pay certain out-of-pocket costs in original Medicare.
Medicare Advantage (Part C)
A Medicare-approved private plan that provides an alternative way to receive Part A and Part B benefits. Networks, costs, and plan rules vary.
